Heritage Breed Chickens

At Rolling R Farm we only raise heritage breed meat and egg laying chickens.  The quick growing "MUTANT" meat chickens that are today's standard, for not only factory farming but also many of todays small producers, are NOT grown here.  The meat chickens of today are very soft textured, mainly because they are generally confined and don't have proper muscle tone, and flavorless because they are usually no older than 6 weeks of age. Our chickens are literally the chickens that were raised on the family farm during the 1800 and early 1900's.  They are naturally good foragers, have long muscular legs, narrow breasts and plentiful dark meat.  They are raised longer giving them time to develop amazing flavor and muscle texture.  The chickens here are happy chickens, they are allowed to do the things chickens love to do!  Our chickens are all raised with access to fresh pasture with plenty of bugs and small creatures to munch on.  They are also rotated with the cattle to help with pest control and to spread the "natural fertilizer", one of their favorite jobs I might add!  The laying stock is also ranged out doors and are comfortably housed indoors for the winter with access to plowed paths outdoors, weather permitting.

Chickens need to be ordered in early spring.
